Amsterdam Dance Event
October 20 - October 23
Various Venues
Amsterdam, Netherlands
From a biz perspective, while some music conferences have evolved into little more than opportunities for lengthy 'meetings' at sunny rooftop pools and in beachside
bars, ADE has remained of equal currency to both the
industry bod and the dance music appreciator.
Wheeling and dealing will abound during ADE's four
days, with 150 speakers, 2000 delegates and plenty of
hand-shaking and dotted-line-signing. But if you
couldn't give a hoot about any of that, there's always
the option of spending your days tootling around the
'dam's quaint city centre before 40 venues throw
open their doors for the festival's evening affairs.
Aside from (shameless plug alert) our own party at
Trouw with Hercules & Love Affair, Steve Bug and
Tensnake, dance music fans of all stripes will find something
to throw some shapes and cut a rug to—from Marcel
Dettmann to Kelis, Sander Kleinenberg to Flying Lotus, and
parties hosted by Bpitch Control, Hemlock, Circoloco,
Secretsundaze, Boys Noize, and Border Community.
Soorya Dance Festival
Place: Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, India
Venue: Tagore Theatre
Time: 1st to 10th October
The Dance and Music festival presents different forms of
dance like Kathak, Odissi, Manipuri, Bharathanatyam,
Kathakali, Kuchipudi and Mohiniyattam as well as classical
music renditions, instrumental music,
jugal bandi's etc. by popular artists.
STOCKHOLM BEER & WHISKY FESTIVAL
Dates: 30 September - 2 October
and 7-9 October
Place: Factory, Nacka Strand,
Stockholm, Sweden
Age Limit: 20 years
The tickets are available at
www.ticknet.se
Ph: 077-170 70 70 Event is in October and World Pasta Day is the fourth Sunday
in October. Fantasy Fest, Key West, USA (October 20-29) This ten-day free-for-all makes the rest seem pretty
innocent in terms of nudity, frivolous titillation, costume
parades, and drunken debauchery. The rhythm is definitely
going to get to you, as rum pours onto
the streets 24 hours a day. The climax
hits on the last day of celebrations
with a costumed parade along
historic Duval Street. Southern
Silliness meets Eyes Wide Shut as
impersonators donning masks and
dressing up in outrageous garb let all
inhibitions go. Body-painting, freak
shows and toga parties have led to
this year's theme: "Circus &
Sideshows" which will not disappoint
even the most outrageous.
Munich Beerfest, Germany
(September 16 - October 2)
The annual beer-fest starts
midday as Munich's mayor pulls the
first pint after a huge parade
through the city's streets. The local
breweries fight for bragging rights
by showcasing their massive
arsenal. The Hofbrauhaus attracts
the rowdiest masses and the
hottest party. Make sure you get
there by 10:30am, since waiters only
serve those seated (oh, the place is
usually packed by 11am). Before you
know it, you are reminiscing with
your long-lost (or unknown) friend
Hans and extolling the virtues of
boozing, German-style.
San Francisco Lovevolution October 2
Various Venues
San Francisco, USA
With the events of Duisburg still
fresh in mind, it won't surprise you to learn
that there have been delays over details
surrounding this year's LovEvolution in San
Francisco. The party's previous hub, Civic
Center, has been deemed too small to
safely house the number of people
expected at this year's event, leaving the
LovEvolution team and the local authorities
to hammer out details on a new location.
Whatever the outcome, a series of parties in
and around the city should be expected as
part of what the organizers have branded
"Love Week."
RA pick: Lee Burridge seems to be
the only certainty right now, which is no
bad thing. |
