EGYPT The land of the oldest wonder

The pyramids are three in numbers. The Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest, largest and most famous of them.. The oldest and only remaining member of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World,
it is believed to have been constructed over a twenty years period
concluding around five thousand years ago

M isr, Egypt the name itself is an attraction at least for one who is in a habit of mixing past with present as a process to understand the myth of the evolution of humanity on the dear earth. To those who are so proud of their much scientifically advanced modern times it is a lesson to be learnt for no technology even in present time has given a befitted reply to the terrific making of Pyramids.

Yes, Pyramids of Giza combined with a cruise along the Nile and a ride on a camel around the desert. All such fanciful things remained a fancy for so long and abruptly came true with a very cordial invitation from Mr. Sarkis B. Kezelian and Mr. Mohamed Dahroug of Travel Ways in April this year. With this offer not only an extensive tour of Egypt was associated it also had looming prospects for the enhancement of tourism between India and Egypt and that too was a big thing in itself, for us at least.

Located in the northern side of Africa Egypt is a a part of Arabic world though not exactly in its culture and civilization which is quite Egyptian, if you do not want to call it Afro-Asian, especially in the southern side. A small part of the country, the Sinai Peninsula, Extends into south western Asia. Egypt is stretched between the Red Sea in the east and the country of Libya in the west. In the north, it touches the Mediterranean Sea. We, in India know Egypt as a country with Pyramids and perhaps no more. There used to be a mention of Egypt years before in the seventies particularly for its entanglement in Arab-Israel conflict. The Camp David Agreement ended this all.

A delightful routine to be very positive and nothing much.A Gulf Air flight to Cairo it was. Quite a comfortable journey with a hospitable crew taking care of passengers’ needs as usual. There was one stoppage and then a safe and timely landing at Cairo. The hospitality of our Egyptian friends had strated right from our touching at their soil. Their guy was there to receive and take us to Heliopolis, a famous five star hotel of the Egyptian capital.

A nice welcome, a cozy room and a routine washing as all human beings are used to and that was all it took us to set out for the first target of a busy itinerary. We were a bit impatient too as we were in Cairo and the land of the oldest wonder— one of seven wonders of the world, Pyramid was there before us. The taxi was ready and waiting to give its Indian guests a ride through the Giza. There is no reckoning how many tourists have already been to this wonderful place to view these ancient monuments prior to us and what exactly there feelings have been. But one thing is certain. They all must have been as thrilled as we were on our way to Giza, the renowned city of Egypt that has become synonymous with Pyramids throughout the world.

It was no more than thirty five minutes ride from our hotel in Cairo to the great historical site. The times have changed a great deal and with them changed the culture and religion of the Country but many famous ruins from ancient Egypt still survive today. The most famous among these ruins are the great Pyramids. These massive structures are the tombs of ancient rulers called Pharaohs. Just three hundred visitors are allowed to see them at a time. We were astonished at their mammoth structure. They are three in numbers. The Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest, largest and most famous of them.. The oldest and only remaining member of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, it is believed to have been constructed over a twenty years period concluding around five thousand years ago. The Great Pyramid was built as a tomb for an Egyptian pharaoh, Khufu and is also called the Pyramid of Khufu.
